More security Level added to Google Nest Devices

Google Nest devices that have products under Nest are Nest Wifi, Nest Hub max, Pixel Book Go, Chromecast, Pixel 4, Nest Mini, and many more products that are used for entertainment and Security purposes. You can also visit: https://store.google.com/ Check your origin availability.

Google is going to extend the Advanced protection Program to all Nest Devices. The whole program would help customers who are at a high risk of being targeted online with a security layer.

What happens

From the Google blog post, we found that a user can now use their Google Account for Both advanced Protection Program and Nest at the same time. The program is designed for high-risk targets such as politicians, journalists, and activists available to join. 

Attacks on Google Nest

  1. This year, the scammer targeted users with the Google Nest Security camera footage as it was the part sextortion campaign. The Scam has affected 1,700 people in the U.S.
  2. In 2019, an Illinois couple victimized by a cyber attacker hurled obscenities at their child over their Google Nest camera and turned the Google Nest thermostat to 90 Degree. 
  3. This hack again from October 2019, It was reported that the Google Nest camera in a Californian home which was hacked and a woman’s voice was heard “I’m Coming for your baby”

Due to the level of cyber-attacks increased, that is why Google Nest Devices are under threat more often so the Advanced Protection Program starts with google Nest Devices. If you want to signup in the Advanced Protection then the user needs two physical security keys: The first one is main and another a backup.

  1. The android phone running version 7.0 and higher or running an iOS device running version 10.0 and higher.
  2. Every Andris user can activate the built-in security key where iOS users are required to download the Google Smart Lock app.

Earlier Google has also rolled back the various Security features to the Google Nest device including 2FA for the users who had not yet changed the Nest accounts to Google accounts.

Through the above security system, the google disallows the user to install the apps from outside play store and also limit the google data. Google has also mentioned that if you are Nest user and sign up the Advanced Protection and the other family member should also enroll in the security program.
